Tomatina 2023

The biggest food fight in the world

What is Tomatina?

La Tomatina is a food-fight festival held anually on the last Wednesday of August, in the town of Buñol, near Valencia, Spain. Thousands of people make their way from all corners of the world to participate in this, known as the 'World's Biggest Food-Fight'. Every year, over 100 metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets!

As it became more and more popular over the years, official ticketing was put in place to limit the amount of people participating. Since 2013, the official limit for food-fighters is 20.000; this might not sound like that many but in actual fact, it's more than twice the actual population of just 9.000!

Much like in anticipation of Carnival parades, shop-keepers prepare by covering their shopfronts in huge plastic covers in order to protect them from the tomato mess.

A truly unique experience. Once the trucks with tomatoes go through the streets it turns into a mayhem. Thanks to Yes-Trips we managed to see every aspect of the festival.
